The centre section of this brooch is not silver but a later base metal addition.
The Victorians were into mourning brooches, and it is likely that this is what this piece originally was, with perhaps a lock of hair in a glass protected centre panel.
The brooch is Hallmarked for Birmingham 1895.

Hallmarked for Glasgow 1954 in the form of a sheathed sword this brooch/kilt pin  has Celtic designs around the hilt area.
It has an irregularity half way down the blade where a bend has been partially straightened but this is not obvious from the front and does not detract from the piece.
Length 2 3/4"
Weight 0.19 ounce
£20
